Mental Odds-on for 2012 Queensland Guineas

Stradbroke bound gelding Mental is odds-on favourite to take out the Group 2 $350,000 2012 Queensland Guineas (1400m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

Mental

Mental is a short-priced favourite for the 2012 Queensland Guineas

The Peter Snowden-trained three-year-old is currently being offered at $2.10 by bookmaker.com.au to capture a third straight victory after dominant displays in his last two starts.

A son of Lonhro, Mental currently sits at 23rd in the Stradbroke Handicap order of entry but will gain qualification if he does as expected and wins this weekend.

Next best in the betting and what looks to be the only real threat to Mental is fellow Snowden-trained horse Free Wheeling ($4.40).

The Ad Valorem colt won the Hawkesbury Guineas by four lengths earlier this month and was impressive last start in the BRC Sprint.

Despite finishing fourth in the Group 3 sprint, the talented colt came home strong and finished lest than 1/2 a length behind winner Tiger Tees.

Following Free Wheeling in the Queensland Guineas market is Amah Rock ($9.00) who was last seen finishing second to Mental in the Fred Best Classic.

The talented Fastnet Rock gelding has shown plenty of promise in his young career, winning three times and placing on another three occasions from eight starts.

No other horse falls under the double figure range with Danny O’Brien-trained filly Shopaholic the next best at $10.00.

The daughter of Pins boasts an impressive resume of five wins from 12 starts and has previously beaten highly-rated horses Mosheen and Soft Sand.

Other horses set to line up in the Queensland Guineas include Boys On Tour ($15.00), Liam Birchley-trained Emmalene ($21.00), Gold Coast-based gelding Morning Captain ($26.00) while Pear Tart is up in class and chasing a third straight victory at a huge $41.00.

The Queensland Guineas will jump as the sixth race on a bumper Eagle Farm Card that is highlighted by the Group 1 Queensland Oaks.

The betting markets are now available on all this weekend’s top racing action so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a winner!
