2012 Queensland Oaks Betting Tight

If the market is anything to go by, this Saturday’s Group 1 2012 Queensland Oaks (2400m) is set to be an extremely tight contest.

Invest

Schweppes Oaks winner Invest faces a tough ask after drawing barrier 22 for the Queensland Oaks

New Zealand filly Quintessential ($4.00) sits at the top of the bookmaker.com.au market just ahead of New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Artistic ($4.80).

John Sargent-trained Quintessential has produced two excellent efforts to finish fourth despite unfavourable barrier draws and comes right into contention in this weekend’s feature after drawing the inside barrier.

Miss Artistic has had two promising runs since arriving in Australia and came within a neck of claiming victory when second to Invest in the Group 3 Roses.

Hussonet filly Angel Of Mercy ($6.00) follows the pair in the betting market but will have to bounce back from her last start where she finished sixth in the Roses.

Prior to that, the Gerald Ryan-trained horse had been in terrific form, scoring back-to-back victories in the HB Carr Stakes at Randwick and the Channel Seven BM90 Handicap at Doomben.

Also at $6.00 is Scorpio Queen who has been impressive in two starts this winter, winning the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet before finishing third in the Roses.

Providing a bit more value is Schweppes Oaks winner Invest ($9.50) and Howard Matthews-trained New Zealand filly Poste Restante ($10.00).

Invest is the in-form horse coming into the race after backing up her Schweppes Oaks win with victory in the Roses but the daughter of Dehere faces a tough ask to make it three straight victories after drawing barrier 22.

Poste Restante was impressive in her only start on Australian soil when she hit the line hard to finish third and only a neck behind the winner Brambles in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate.

Other horses set to line up in the $400,000 fillies’ feature this Saturday include Robert Smerdon-trained Red Typhoon ($15.00) and John Thompson-trained Pretty Pins ($15.00) and New Zealand filly Dowager Queen ($26.00).
