Sizzling Tops 2012 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes Field

Kelso Wood-trained colt Sizzling is the headline act in a nine-horse field named to contest the Group 2 $250,000 2012 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm this weekend.

Sizzling is the horse to beat in the BRC Sires' Produce Stakes

The son of Snitzel has been in sensational form this year, flying home to win his past two starts despite getting out of the barriers poorly.

It will be the first attempt at 1400 metres for the talented two-year-old but his strong finishes in his past two starts suggest he should handle the extra distance.

Experienced Queensland jockey Chris Munce has ridden the exciting youngster in all of his career starts and he will again be in the saddle when he runs from barrier seven on Saturday.

Sizzling will start as favourite when markets open later this week and his biggest threat is likely to be Peter Snowden-trained gelding Academus.

The lightly-raced two-year-old has only had two starts to date but has shown plenty of promise with two runner-up finishes.

A son of Lohnro, Academus looked to have the Group 2 Champagne Classic won before Sizzling flew home to finish a neck in front.

The Sires’ Produce serves as a final lead-up event to Saturday week’s Group 1 TJ Smith and other contenders set to line up this Saturday include Noogoora Burr and Dances On Stars.

Noogoora Burr surprised many when beating Hoss Amor by nearly two lengths to take out the Listed Hampden Stakes and backed up the win with a solid effort to finish fourth in the Champagne Stakes.

Gerald Ryan-trained Dances On Stars beat a decent field in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick earlier this year and has since placed on two occasions behind Sizzling.

Other horses named in the final field for Saturday’s two-year-old feature include Guy Walter-trained Toydini and last-start winner Gay Deceiver.
