QTC Cup 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A full field of 16 horses has been named to contest Saturday’s Group 2 $1750,000 2012 QTC Cup (1300m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse.

The QTC Cup will run as the last race of the day on the Eagle Farm program and provides a final chance to impress for a number of Stradbroke Handicap hopefuls ahead of Saturday week’s drawcard event.

One horse who needs to win on Saturday to qualify for the Stradbroke Handicap is Con Karakatsanis-trained Riva De Lago.

After a disappointing start to 2012 the Encosta De Lago gelding bounced back last start to win the Yarraman Park-Horsepower Handicap at Scone in front of a quality field.

There is plenty of speed in the race and one horse who will provide that is Kelso Wood-trained gelding Belltone who produced an excellent run when flying home to finish just 1/2 a length behind the winner when fifth in the BRC Sprint.

The Brisbane-based six-year-old produced a strong run despite a wide draw and is likely to improve on Saturday after receiving a favourable barrier five position.

Four-year-old gelding Audacious Spirit heads into the race in excellent form after finishing second and first from two starts this preparation.

The Gillian Heinrich-trained horse is facing a step up in class but was particularly impressive last start when dominating the Channel Seven BM90 Handicap by 3 1/2 lengths.

Joseph Pride-trained gelding Neeson produced some solid performances in the Sydney Autumn Carnival but will need to turn around his last-start effort after finishing eighth in the BTC Cup.

The son of Mossman is a winner of eight of 29 starts but faces a tough test this weekend after drawing barrier 17.

Other horses included in the QTC Cup field are Brett Partelle-trained Torio’s Quest,Prime Minister’s Cup winner Celtic Dancer and BRC sprint third place-getter Steel Zip.
