Eagle Farm Cup 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Two New Zealand-bred runners head a nine-horse field for Saturday’s Group 2 $250,000 2012 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) that stands as a final lead-up race for Saturday week’s Brisbane Cup.

Doomben Cup runner-up Lights Of Heaven gets a chance to go one better in Saturday's Eagle Farm Cup

Lights Of Heaven is one of the top chances in Saturday's Eagle Farm Cup

Fresh off a second-place effort in the Group 1 Doomben Cup, Peter Moody-trained mare Lights Of Heaven gets a chance to go one better after finishing runner-up in his last two starts.

Beating him the first time was Allan Sharrock-trained Shez Sinsational who gets a chance to bounce back after a Doomben Cup seventh following an unfavourable barrier draw.

The Ekraar four-year-old has nine wins from 22 starts and arrived for the Brisbane Winter Carnival with plenty of form behind her including wins in the Group 1 Darci Brahma Stakes and Auckland Cup.

She is no stranger to Eagle Farm and returns to the track where she placed in both the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and Queensland Derby last year.

Experienced gelding Ginga Dude also heads into Saturday’s stayers’ event in solid form after winning a winter carnival lead-up at Eagle Farm before taking top honours in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup.

The Graeme Boyd-trained eight-year-old has had a longest run of 1600 metres this year but the distance will be no problem as he has won at 2200 metres before.

Two-time Doomben Cup winner Scenic Shot produced his usual consistent performance when fourth in the 2012 Doomben Cup and is in a great position to build on the promising performance.

Also set to line up is Tim Martin-trained mare Fibrillation who had a stunning Sydney Carnival before running fifth in the Doomben Cup.

The daughter of Diatribe won the Aspiration Quality and the Epona Stakes back to back before running a close second to Skyerush in the Emancipation Stakes.

Other horses set to line up in the Eagle Farm Cup include 2010 winner Triple Honour and Chairman’s Handicap third place-getter Warrior Within.
