Ryan Backs Angel Of Mercy To Win 2012 Queensland Oaks

Trainer Gerald Ryan has nothing but the utmost confidence in Angel Of Mercy going into this Saturday’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm on June 2, 2012.

Angel Of Mercy finished sixth in her last start in the Group 3 The Roses at Doomben on May 19, 2012, behind Invest.

Despite the setback, Ryan is positive she can come out on top of her game this weekend for the 2012 Queensland Oaks.

The trainer has acquired two previous Queensland Oaks titles in recent years and has revealed that Angel Of Mercy is his most obvious chance yet.

”I was confident about Arctic Scent (1996) winning despite coming off a long campaign,” Ryan said.

”She ran fourth in the AJC Oaks, fifth in both the oaks races in Adelaide and then went up there to win it.

”Mon Mekki (2002) won a class 2 on the Gold Coast in the first week of December and I said then she’d win the Queensland Oaks.

Angel Of Mercy

Angel Of Mercy is in strong contention for the 2012 Queensland Oaks this Saturday.

”This filly is classier.

“They couldn’t win three-year-old stakes races like this filly has won.

“I’m not saying she is a better stayer than the other two but she is a classier racehorse.”

Angel Of Mercy has won three of her 10 career starts and has earned more than $160,000 in prize money.

The Hussonet filly will be taking on the 2012 Queensland Oaks’ 2,400 metre distance for the first time in her career.

“She’ll run the trip [2400m] the way she races, the way she switches off,” Ryan said.

”Why wouldn’t she run it, I have no doubt, ask Corey (Brown), he told me she’d run any journey you trained her for and she has been aimed at the race for quite a while, when she was in Melbourne back in February.”
