The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival continues at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday May 26 with a crack eight-event program to take place for Doomben 10,000 Day 2012, the Races.com.au crew’s Doomben tips for which are listed right here.
The meeting is of course headlined by the much awaited clash between the likes of BTC Cup winner Sea Siren, ace Brisbane galloper Buffering and Scone Guineas champ Pampelonne in the $650,000 Group 1 Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
Running as Doomben Race 7 at 4:00pm the 2012 Doomben 10,000 is shaping up as a supercharged showdown and is an intriguing betting race for the bookmaker.com.au punters.
While the Doomben 10,000 2012 is the race you’ll be gearing up for there’s four other stakes races on the agenda as well.
Black type racing at Doomben is due to get underway with Race 3 at 1:25pm when a smart field of two-year-olds will race in the $100,000 Listed The Phoenix (1350m) which serves as a good guide for punters and connections heading into the 2012 The TJ Smith on Stradbroke Handicap Day.
The first of the Group features is then scheduled for 2:40pm with Race 5 – the $150,000 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) where the Queensland Derby-bound, Peter Moody-trained trio of Brambles, Soros and Vatuvei will come face to face.
Next-up in the sixth gallopers will have their latest Brisbane Cup trial in the $125,000 Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) including the in-form Shamardashing and Dance With Her, both out for their third win on the trot.
The other stakes races to enjoy a punt on then follows the Doomben 10,000 and brings the day to a close at 4:40pm with some quality sprinters engaged for the $80,000 Listed Chief De Beers (1100m) including last start winners Seek And Find and Excellantes.
With so many good races and so many livewire hopefuls across the Doomben race card the Races.com.au team has worked hard to provide our readers with our top Doomben 10,000 Day tips.

2012 Doomben 10,000 Day Tips
Doomben – Saturday May 26, 2012
Race 1 – 12:15pm Oztronics Class 6 Handicap (1615m)
- 1st – #3 They Won’t Last ($5.50)
- 2nd – #16 Angusroy ($5)
- 3rd – #5 Horoscopes ($15)
They Won’t Last comes off a good third at the Gold Coast in the wet and can handle the rain if it comes here. Anugsroy gets the draw (barrier four) and was impressive last start winning over 1500m on a Heavy Eagle Farm track, while Horoscopes to improve on their last start effort at Ipswich and run a place but is drawn too wide for the win.
Race 2 – 12:50pm Ambassador Travel QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1200m)
- 1st – #4 Longshoreman ($7)
- 2nd – #5 Viking Heart ($7)
- 3rd – #3 Run With Me ($13)
Longshoreman rises in class here but are undefeated with three wins from as many starts to date, see Brisbane for the first time, Galloway stays on and they get a draw in five, if it rains they’ll be near impossible to beat with their trio of wins being on Slow – Heavy. Viking Heart is a definite improver, lots to like including their record at the track (6-2-2-1) and their back-to-back wins over 1350m at Doomben in Feb. Run With Me has the right lead-up but rises in the weights and is drawn in double digits.
Race 3 – 1:25pm Sita Australia The Phoenix (1350m)
- 1st – #1 Choice Bro ($5.50)
- 2nd – #10 Hoss Amor ($2.30)
- 3rd – #5 Courtz Boy ($16)
Find out why Choice Bro is our tip to win in our The Phoenix 2012 Tipping Guide.
Race 4 – 2:00pm Ticketek Class 6 Plate (1350m)
- 1st – #9 Hour Of Peril ($8)
- 2nd – #17 Supreme Affair ($81)
- 3rd – #1 Dusty Gold ($5)
Hour Of Peril the market mover for a reason, their Gold Coast win in the wet last time out was good and they know how to win at Doomben as well, plus Cassidy stays on, won’t get them at $31 odds again. Supreme Affair gets a run with an early scratching and if they can step it up and back up from their recent win at the Sunshine Coast on a Slow rated track will be competitive at the best odds of the day. Dusty Gold was impressive when fourth over this track and distance last start when fourth and will improve on that
Race 5 – 2:40pm Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (2200m)
- 1st – #2 Brambles ($4)
- 2nd – #3 Vatuvei ($6.50)
- 3rd – #1 Isopach ($5)

Race 6 – 3:20pm Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m)
- 1st – #3 Larry’s Never Late ($12)
- 2nd – #4 Dance With Her ($7)
- 3rd – #6 Wazn ($4)

Race 7 – 4:00pm Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 (1350m)
- 1st – #4 Buffering ($7)
- 2nd – #12 Pampelonne ($4.80)
- 3rd – #7 Pinwheel ($12)
Find out why we are tipping Buffering to come back and win their first Group 1 in our Doomben 10,000 2012 Preview and Tips post.
Race 8 – 4:40pm Cathay Pacific Chief De Beers Handicap (1100m)
- 1st – #5 Excellantes ($3.30)
- 2nd – #14 Rocker ($10)
- 3rd – #4 Seek And Find ($5.50)
