The Phoenix 2012 Betting – Hoss Amor Odds-On

John O’Shea-trained filly Hoss Amor is odds-on favourite to finish at the front of the field in The Phoenix 2012 (1350m) which will take place at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday.

Fresh off a second-place effort in the Listed Hampden Stakes, the General Nediym two-year-old is currently paying $2.30 ( to take top honours in the $100,000 Listed event.

The juvenile race serves as a leadup event for next month’s Group 1 TJ Smith Plate and another of the contenders being targeted for that race is Saturn Rock ($4.00).

Trained by Shaune Ritchie in New Zealand, the Fastnet Rock filly has won once and placed three times from four starts including a last-start third when debuting on Australian soil in the Listed Hampden Stakes.

New Zealand-bred Choice Bro is next best in the betting at $5.50 and should improve on his Hampden Stakes fourth when stepping up to a more suitable distance of 1350 metres.

The son of Choisir is being targeted for the TJ Smith (1600m) and has an impressive record of three wins from seven starts including the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

No other horse is paying under $10.00 to win the Phoenix with Anthony Freedman-trained Boban the next best at $11.00.

The Mornington-based colt finished a disappointing 10th in the Hampden Stakes but won the Schweppes Handicap at Sandown-Lakeside by 1 ½  lengths the start before.

Other horses set to line up in the Phoenix include last-start winners Courtz Boy ($15.00), Holey Gadoley ($21.00), Caliente ($31.00) and Hi Son ($51.00).

The Phoenix will run as the third race on a bumper eight-event card that features the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

Other program highlights include the Group 3 Premier’s Cup and the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes which features a number of Queensland Derby hopefuls.
