BTC Cup winner Sea Siren will start as favourite as she attempts to add a second Group 1 title to her resume in Saturday’s Group 1 2012 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
Currently paying $4.20 at bookmaker.com.au, the Fastnet Rock filly was impressive when winning by more than a length in the BTC Cup and has drawn favourably in barrier seven to back up again this weekend.
She is trailed by fellow three-year-old Pampelonne ($4.80) who is chasing a fourth consecutive victory in his first step up to Group level racing.
The talented youngster has drawn barrier three and comes into the race in sizzling form after winning the $500,000 Scone Guineas by 3½ lengths.
Queensland sprinter Buffering was a short-priced favourite before being scratched from the BTC Cup but is far more value here at $7.00 following his stone bruise injury.
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding has reportedly fully recovered from the injury and will run from barrier 10 with experienced Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman on board.
A son of Mossman, the four-year-old is expected to thrive if the rain predicted for later this week eventuates with his wet-track record sitting at three wins from five starts.
Also sitting under double figures is Peter Moody-trained Mid Summer Music ($9.00) who has nine wins from 21 starts and is fresh off a runner-up finish on a heavy track in the Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m).
Like Buffering, the six-year-old mare is yet to taste elite level victory but finished third behind Black Caviar and Buffering in November’s Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic.
With 25-30mm of rain predicted for Friday, a number of runners with wet track credentials could come into contention including Temple Of Boom ($16.00) and Ladys Angel ($31.00).
Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom has won five times and finished runner-up on three other occasions from nine wet-track starts while Joseph Pride-trained Ladys Angel has three wins and two seconds in wet conditions.
There is set to be plenty of speed in the race with local gelding Adebisi ($61.00) set to get out of the gates quickly while two-time Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha is the outsider at $101.00
