Sizzling Leads The TJ Smith 2012 Odds

Kelso Wood’s flying young Snitzel colt Sizzling has unsurprisingly opened as the short priced favourite in the futures 2012 The TJ Smith odds ahead of the Stradbroke Handicap Day feature running at Eagle Farm on June 9.

Sizzling

Sizzling is the early favourite to take out the 2012 The TJ Smith title

Won 12 months ago by the Peter Snowden-trained Benfica, this year’s $500,000 Group 1 The TJ Smith (1600m) looks to be Sizzling’s for the taking according to bookmaker.com.au who have them installed as the $2.60 favourite.

Sizzling is undefeated this season having won both of their assignments so far most recently in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 19.

Champagne Classic runner-up Academus came within a nose of Sizzling that day, the Lonhro gelding occupying the second line of TJ Smith betting at a quote of $4.40.

Academus is out to hand Snowden back-to-back wins in The TJ Smith, and is also out to break their maiden status having also run second on debut at Hawkesbury on May 5 with improvement on their Champagne performance likely.

Following in the markets are then the Gai Waterhouse-trained duo of Betrayal and Kabayan paying $8.50 and $11 respectively.

Exceed And Excel colt Betrayal has had two runs to date for one win last start, an eye-catching two length effort over 1250m at Canterbury on May 16.

They are likely to have one final lead-up Saturday week ahead of the TJ Smith Plate.

Haradasun gelding Kabayan meanwhile won their race debut on May 10 in a similarly impressive fashion putting a minimum two lengths on their rivals over 1000m at Wyong.

Kabayan backs up at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday where they will look to remain unbeaten.

Other exciting two-year-olds high up The TJ Smith Plate odds currently include Shanue Ritchie’s Fastnet Rock filly Saturn Rock ($12) from New Zealand, recent Hampden Stakes runner-up Hoss Amor ($14) and John Thompson’s unraced youngster Destruction ($16).
