Quality 2012 Premier’s Cup Final Field Revealed

A quality field of gallopers has been accepted for the Premier’s Cup 2012 at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday, many of which are gearing up for the Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Handicap Day next month.

Ironstein is the 58kg topweight of the 2012 Premier's Cup this Saturday

Due to jump as Doomben Race 6 at 3:20pm on Saturday the $125,000 Group 3 Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m) has drawn a full field of 16 confirmed starters plus two emergencies.

Topweight of the field is the Gerald Ryan-trained Ironstein with 58kg who will be ridden by apprentice hoop Josh Adams from the inside alley.

The Zabeel six-year-old comes off a second to Hume in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2000m) at Doomben from May 12, Saturday their first run in Queensland since their Group 3 Tatt’s Cup (2200m) win at Eagle Farm last June.

Chairman’s Handicap winner Hume has also been accepted to back up in the Premier’s Cup this weekend, Brian Smith’s local Brisbane galloper coming up with the extreme outside barrier.

A rising nine-year-old Zabeel Hume will be out for their eight career win from 33 starts on Saturday.

Along with Hume there are two other last-start winners in the Premier’s Cup field for 2012 with John Thompson’s five-year-old Shamardal gelding Shamardashing and the in-form Dance With Her.

Due to jump from barrier 15, into 13 with emergencies out, Shamardashing will be ridden by Chris Munce as they seek their third Queensland win on the trot.

Two back they won over 2050m at Doomben before their last start victory over 2200m at the Gold Coast, both wins on Heavy rated tracks.

There is heavy rainfall forecast for Brisbane later in the week and if the heaven’s open up the odds on Shamardashing to win the Premier’s Cup are likely to come in.

The David Brideoake & David Feek co-trained Dance With Her meanwhile has come up with barrier two for Saturday, Steven Arnold to ride the five-year-old Al Maher mare as she seeks her third stakes win on the trot.

Winner of the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m) on a Heavy (8) track on May 3, Dance With Her was last seen running away to take out the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2005m) at Morphettville on May 12 when ridden by Dwayne Dunn on 59kg.

Reuniting with her Warrnambool Cup winning hoop Arnold for the Premier’s Cup, she is also likely to appreciate getting back down to 56kg on Saturday.

Also coming off good recent for are the likes of Warrnambool Cup runner-up Domesky, the Chris Waller-trained Wazn who ran second to Kinnersley in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago, and Bruce Hill’s Chairman’s Handicap third placegetter Warrior Within.

Other notable hopes include Michael Kent’s former AJC Oaks winner Absolutely who will appreciate the sting out of the ground should it be wet, and defending Premier’s Cup winner Shuffle The Cash.
