2012 Doomben 10,000 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

BTC Cup winner Sea Siren headlines a 16-horse field that will contest Saturday’s Group 1 $650,000 2012 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Sea Siren has drawn barrier seven for the Doomben 10,000

The John O’Shea-trained filly came home tremendously to win the BTC Cup by more than a length and will come from barrier seven as she attempts to score a second straight elite level victory.

Rain is predicted for later this week and this could provide one of the main challenges for the young star as she has only had one test on a slow track which resulted in a runner-up finish.

Queensland star Buffering was confirmed as a starter after having another hit-out this morning under the watchful eye of trainer Robert Heathcote.

Heathcote said the missed work caused by the stone bruise injury that saw him withdrawn from the BTC Cup is not of too much concern and is expecting his stable star to head into the race in good condition.

The Mossman four-year-old has drawn barrier 10 as he attempts to score his first victory at the elite level after placing behind star sprinters Black Caviar and Hay List on numerous occasions.

Heathcote is hoping the rain falls as predicted with Buffering boasting a quality wet track record of three wins from five starts.

Exciting three-year-old Pampelonne will run from barrier three with Corey Brown in the saddle and is chasing a fourth consecutive victory.

Trainer Tim Martin elected to run his young star just a week after he won the Scone Guineas by a dominant three lengths as he tries to move up the ballot order to gain entry into next month’s $1 million Stradbroke Handicap.

After impressing trainer Peter Snowden with an improved effort during training, defending champion Beaded will line up on Saturday in barrier 11.

It will be the second last race of the successful Lohnro mare’s career as she will be retired after the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara on June 23.

Also set to run in the Doomben 10,000 are two-time Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha, BTC Cup runner-up Scenic Blast, Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom and Oakleigh Plater winner Woorim.
