Improved Sea Siren Ready for 2012 Doomben 10,000

BTC Cup winner Sea Siren is ready to add a second Group 1 title to her impressive career resume when she lines up in Saturday’s Group 1 $650,000 2012 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Sea Siren is an improved horse from the one that took BTC Cup honours

The John O’Shea-trained filly dominated a host of older horses when winning the BTC Cup by more than a length and her trainer believes she is an improved product from her Group 1 debut.

“She wasn’t right at the top of her game when she won the BTC Cup,” O’Shea said.

“She had a lot of improvement left in her and there is no doubting she has made that nice improvement.”

The Fastnet Rock three-year-old underwent a tough session in front of her watchful trainer this morning and O’Shea said he was “really happy” with her workout.

A winner of four of six starts, the exciting youngster is current $4.00 favourite to win on Saturday with Queensland star Buffering the next best at $6.50.

The Robert Heathcote-trained sprinter impressed his trainer during a tough hit-out yesterday morning and has reportedly fully recovered from the stone bruise injury that saw him miss the BTC Cup.

One advantage the Mossman gelding could have over the inexperienced favourite is wet-weather form with rain predicted for the Queensland capital later this week.

Buffering has won three times from five starts on slow or heavy tracks while Sea Siren is finished second in her only start in wet conditions.

Up-and-coming gelding Pampelonne is the next best in the market at $8.00 while last year’s winner Beaded is currently paying $9.00.

Tim Martin-trained Pampelonne has been confirmed as a starter prior to the naming of acceptances tomorrow and the exciting youngster will be chasing a fourth consecutive victory.

The Rock Of Gibraltar three-year-old has been in sensational form and is fresh off a dominant 3 ½ length victory in the Scone Guineas on Saturday.
