Hoss Amor Heads The Phoenix 2012 Nominations

Talented John O’Shea-trained filly Hoss Amor headlines a 15-horse nominations list for the Listed $100,000 2012 Phoenix (1350m) that will take place at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday.

The General Nediym two-year-old has had just three career starts and but has won once and placed on one other occasion which came in the form of a runner-up finish in the Hampden Stakes (1200m) on May 12.

Trainer O’Shea was pleased with the Hampden Stakes Run and said he expects her to improve when stepping up to 1350 metres for the first time this weekend.

Another of the top nominations is New Zealand-bred colt Choice Bro who also appears set to enjoy the extra distance after running fourth in the Hampden Stakes.

The up-and-coming son of Choisir has won three times from seven career starts including the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in late March.

Hampden Stakes third place-getter Saturn Rock is another who has been racing in New Zealand and from four career starts has recorded one victory but is yet to finish outside the top three finishers.

Trained by Shaune Ritchie, the daughter of Fastnet Rock has signalled plenty of potential but it will be interesting to see how she handles her first step up to 1350 metres.

Other horses nominated include John Thompson-trained pair Will Be Amazed and Utilism and last-start winner Holey Gadoley.

The Phoenix will take place as part of another bumper day at Doomben this weekend that is highlighted by the Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

Queensland star Buffering looks set to return in the $650,000 feature event and will come up against BTC Cup winner Sea Siren and a number of other Group 1 winners.
