Fit Buffering Headed to 2012 Doomben 10,000

Robert Heathcote-trained gelding Buffering is set to return this Saturday in the 2012 Doomben 10,000(1350m) following the stone bruise injury that saw him ruled out of the Group 1 BTC Cup.

Buffering has worked well ahead of Saturday's Doomben 10,000

The Queensland sprinter worked well yesterday under the watchful eye of Heathcote and pulled up without concerns ahead of the Group 1 $650,000 feature event.

Buffering’s chances of claiming his first victory at the elite level have improved with wet weather forecast this week in the Brisbane capital.

The son of Mossman has won three times from five starts on slow or heavy tracks and trainer Heathcote is confident the weather will give his stable star an advantage this weekend.

“I’ll be taking him to the races on Saturday in good shape,” Heathcote said.

“He loves the wet.”

The talented four-year-old was a short-priced favourite to take top honours in the BTC Cup before injury struck the day prior to the race following a successful 2012 campaign so far.

He opened the year with a third-place effort to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes before finishing a head behind Hay List to run second in the Newmarket Handicap and then came third in the William Reid Stakes.

Following a brief spell the Brisbane based-gelding resumed earlier this month to win a rescheduled Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm by seven lengths in what was an impressive run on a heavy track.

To claim his first Group 1 victory this weekend he will have to overcome a quality field that will include BTC Cup winner Sea Siren.

The talented filly boasts an impressive early career record of four wins from six starts and trainer John O’Shea said this morning the 1350 metres will suit the Fastnet Rock three-year-0ld.

Other horses nominated for the Doomben 10,000 include Queensland Group 1 winners Temple Of Boom and Woorim as well as talented three-year-old Pampelonne.
