Invest On Track for Oaks After Winning The Roses 2012

Clarry Connors-trained filly Invest has backed up her win the Schweppes Oaks at Morphetville last month to take out the Group 3 2012 Roses at Doomben today.

The daughter of Dehere received little attention from the punters prior to the race but made everyone at the track take note as she sprinted home ahead of New Zealand filly Miss Artistic and last-start winner Scorpio Queen.

Peter Mertens has ridden the talented three-year-old in her four previous starts and he again produced an excellent ride to guide her into an ideal position at the top of the straight.

Trainer Connors was thrilled after the race for the horse that has not finished worse than fourth in her last six starts.

“It was a pretty courageous win really…she’s bloomed up here, we’re tickled pick with her,” Connors said.

The winner of three of 14 starts will next head to the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) which will be held at Eagle Farm on June 2.

“That one should just top her right off, we always thought she’d stay.

“She’ll bloom now.”

It was the second win over 2000 metres for Invest who will again have to step up in distance in the Oaks which is run over 2400 metres.

Early Oaks favourite Miss Artistic produced another strong showing in what was her second race on Australian soil after running fourth two weeks ago in the Gold Coast Bracelet.

The run holds her in a good position ahead of the $400,000 Oaks which is the same distance as the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks which she won earlier this year.

This race serves as a great lead up to next month’s Queensland Oaks and the best Oaks betting will be found at

Home of the best odds, is 100 percent Australian owned and offers a $300 bonus bet for first time depositing customers.
