Wealth Princess Returns to Win Glenlogan Park Stakes 2012

Classy mare Wealth Princess has celebrated a return to Brisbane after a two-year absence with injury by taking out the Group 3 $150,000 2012 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

The talented six-year-old looked had a highly successful Brisbane carnival in 2012, winning the Glenlogan Park Stakes and placing in the Dane Ripper Stakes and the Group 1 Winter Stakes.

Shortly after she suffered a torn tendon and the injury was so severe that she was only able to return to racing earlier this month.

The New Zealand-bred horse was transferred to trainer Darren Weir’s Warrnambool-based stables four months ago and looks set to go on to bigger and better things if she can maintain her fitness.

With Michael Walker in the saddle, the daughter of San Luis got out of the gates well and was able to sit just behind the lead before finishing the race like a horse that had never been out of the game.

Walker rode her to victory two years ago and was full of praise for both the trainer and horse alike after the race.

“Credit goes to Darren Weir and his stuff, training her down at Warrnambool. She’s had injury after injury,” Walker said.

“I love her, she’s my favourite…Darren’s got her spot on.”

Despite being six years old, her horror injury has seen Wealth Princess race just 13 times but she boasts a brilliant record of seven wins and five minor placings.

Second favourite Sophie’s Spirit ran a tough race to lead for the majority of the 1350 metres but had to settle for second while Gold Coast-based mare Alltherightmoves finished in third.
