Miss Artistic Leads 2012 The Roses Doomben Odds

New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Artistic has opened at the top of the markets for The Roses 2012 on Doomben Cup Day this Saturday, the Kiwi filly continuing on the Queensland Oaks path.

Angel Of Mercy

Angel Of Mercy is one of four single figure chances in the 2012 The Roses this Saturday

Shaune Ritchie’s Darci Brahma filly earned a trip across the Tasman after winning the Group 1 NZ Oaks (2400m) in a photo finish back in March.

She made her Aussie debut at the Gold Coast on May 5 when fourth in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) and is heading towards a run in the $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 2 where she will look to become the second New Zealand-trained filly to win in as many years following the success of Scarlett Lady.

On way to her Queensland Oaks win last Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Scarlett Lady also won The Roses, and that’s exactly what connections hope Miss Artistic will do on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier nine in the capacity 16-starter plus five-emergency field for the $1750,000 Group 3 The Roses (2000m), Miss Artistic will again be ridden by her Hollindale jockey Chris Munce, the duo to move into gate seven with the spares coming out.

Narrow favourite in the futures Queensland Oaks odds at bookies around the country Miss Artistic is also sitting top of The Doomben Roses betting markets at bookmaker.com.au paying $4.60.

Just three of her rivals are single-figure chances with:

  • #6 Scorpio Queen ($6) – Chris Waller-trained Choisir filly won the Gold Coast Bracelet at the Gold Coast last time out on a Heavy (8) beating many of these same rivals, also has winning form in Sydney over 1800m on a Dead (4) so wasn’t just the wet
  • #5 Angel Of Mercy ($7) – Lonhro filly from the Sydney stables of Peter Snowden, was disappointing in the GC Bracelet when beaten nearly 50 lengths, she didn’t handle the mud so ignore that run because she bounced back at the Sunshine Coast on the All Weather course last Sunday to win by six lengths over the mile, has won up to 1900m during the summer so Saturday’s distance suits

Other longer priced fillies with genuine claims of scoring an upset The Roses result on the weekend include Clarry Conners’ Group 1 Schweppes Oaks winner Invest ($10), promising Pins filly Pretty Pins ($11) who has winning form at this track and distance from December, and Savabeel filly Dowager Queen ($14) who is a stablemate of last year’s The Roses – Queensland Oaks winner Scarlett Lady.
