Manighar Clear 2012 Doomben Cup Favourite

Star Peter Moody-trained import Manighar will start as a short-priced favourite when he lines up in the Group 1 $500,000 2012 Doomben Cup (2000m) on Saturday.

Manighar

Manighar is favourite to win Saturday's Group 1 Doomben Cup

Fresh off an autumn campaign that included three Group 1 victories and a runner-up effort to More Joyous in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the six-year-old is currently paying $2.20 at bookmaker.com.au.

The French gelding’s chances of adding another Group 1 title to his impressive resume improved yesterday when he drew the inside barrier and highly-rated New Zealand mare Shez Sensational received barrier 11.

Trained by Allan Sharrock, Shez Sinsational impressed last start when winning the Hollindale Stakes and has three Group 1 wins in New Zealand to her name.

The $5.50 second favourite placed in both the Queensland Oaks and Derby last year and returns to Brisbane a far more accomplished horse with wins in the Zabeel Classic, Darci Brahama International Stakes and Auckland Cup on her resume.

Singapore-based jockey Opie Bosson rode her during her successful Queensland campaign last year, as well as in the recent Hollindale Stakes, and he will again return to Brisbane to take charge of the talented four-year-old.

Following her in the betting is Peter Moody’s second entrant Lights Of Heaven who is paying $6.00 after finishing a head behind Shez Sinsational in the Hollindale Stakes.

The daughter of Zabeel won the Schweppes Oaks at Morphetville over the Doomben Cup distance last year and has drawn a favourable barrier six position for Saturday’s feature race.

German import Mawingo ($8.50) has also drawn well in barrier five and will be out to improve on his Hollindale third placing on an expected dry track at Doomben.

Fellow import Foreteller is at $14.00 while last year’s winner Scenic Shot provides value for the punters at $16.00 as he attempts to add a third Doomben Cup to his resume.
