Lightinthenite Favourite to Win Scone Cup 2012

A bumper two-day carnival of racing kicks off at Scone tomorrow and the highlight on the first day is the Listed $180,000 2012 Scone Cup (1600m).

Current favourite to take top honours in the feature event is talented John O’Shea-trained gelding Lightinthenite who is currently paying $2.90 at bookmaker.com.au.

The lightly-raced four-year-old will have boom New Zealand jockey James McDonald in the saddle as he attempts to build on his impressive resume that consists of five wins from nine career starts.

Following the son of Galileo in the betting is in-form five-year-old Star Of Octagonal who is paying $4.20 to back up his win in the Rowley Mile over Western Symbol with victory tomorrow.

The Todd Howlett-trained gelding has been in sensational form this year, winning twice and placing on four occasions from six starts.

A son of Octagonal, the winner of five of 20 starts will have to overcome his weight allocation of 58kg when running from barrier 10 with regular jockey Robert Thompson on board.

Neither the punters or the bookies are giving the rest of the field a chance in the early stages of betting with the next best contenders Izababe and Raspberries currently being offered at $11.00.

Trained by Peter Snowden, Raspberries had the opportunity to bounce back from a recent horror run of form that has seen her finish eighth on two occasions after beginning the year in promising fashion.

A winner of six of 18 starts, the Lohnro mare kicked off her 2012 campaign with a win in the Group 3 PFD Food Services Stakes and then finish third to Spirit Song in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes.

Just behind them is Chris Waller-trained gelding Snow Alert ($12.00) and Mr Tipsy ($14.00) while Blinkin Easy is the outsider at $81.00.
