Scone Cup 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A bumper two-day carnival of racing kicks off at Scone on Friday and one of the highlight races is the Listed $180,000 2012 Scone Cup (2000m).

Thirteen horses were today named in the final field to contest the event including last-start winner Star Of Octagonal who will carry the top weight of 58kg.

The Todd Howlett-trained gelding is fresh off a Rowley Mile victory at Hawkesbury and will be looking to further build on an impressive year so far which has seen him win twice and place four times from six starts.

A son of Octagonal, the five-year-old has drawn barrier 10 which is one barrier outside highly-rated gelding Lightinthenite (9).

The John O’Shea-trained four-year-old won first-up at Randwick last start and looks well positioned to produce a good effort after being allocated the minimum weight of 54kg.

Last year’s South Australian Derby winner Shadows In The Sun will be out to bounce back from a horror run of form but the gelding has been given no assistance after drawing the widest barrier in the field (13).

The Anthony Cummings-trained gelding has raced three times since his Group 1 victory but has been unable to manage better than eighth.

Lohnro mare Raspberries also gets the opportunity to turn around some poor recent form after producing a promising start to her 2012 campaign.

The Peter Snowden-trained four-year-old began the year with a win in the Group 3 PFD Food Services Stakes and a third-place finish in the Sunline Stakes before producing consecutive eighths in her two most recent starts.

Other horses set to line up in the Scone Cup include Paul Messara-trained Mirrasalo and Chris Waller gelding Snow Alert.
