Manighar Draws Inside – 2012 Doomben Cup Field

Star French import Manighar has drawn the inside barrier for Saturday’s feature Group 1 $500,000 2012 Doomben Cup (2000m).

Manighar has drawn the inside barrier for the Doomben Cup

The Peter Moody-trained race favourite will have 12 rivals as he looks to continue his impressive 2012 run which saw him win three times at Group 1 level earlier this year.

Moody’s stable jockey Luke Nolen was on board for all of the Group 1 victories and he returns after being absent on Black Caviar duty when the gelding ran second to More Joyous in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Manighar’s main rival appears to be highly-rated New Zealand mare Shez Sinsational who is chasing a fourth consecutive victory after impressing in tough conditions to win the Hollindale Stakes.

The Alan Sharrock-trained four-year-old has three New Zealand Group 1 victories to her name and showed plenty of promise in her last visit to Brisbane when placing in the Queensland Oaks and Derby last year.

Singapore-based jockey Opie Bosson rode the mare during her Brisbane campaign last year and he will again return to the sunshine state to ride her from barrier 11 this weekend.

Hollindale Stakes runner-up Lights Of Heaven has drawn a favourable barrier six position and joins Manighar as one of two Moody-trained contenders.

With Nolen already occupied on Manighar, Damien Oliver will assume the ride on the Zabeel mare who has a promising record of four wins from 11 starts.

He will come from one barrier outside well-regarded import Mawingo (5) who impressed when winning first-up by two lengths in his Australian soil debut before finishing third in the Hollindale Stakes.

Other horses set to line up in this weekend’s feature race include in-form mare Fibrillation, two-time Doomben Cup winner Scenic Shot and former Doncaster winner Triple Honour.

The Doomben Cup market will open shortly at which is the best place to back a winter winner!

Home of Quickbet technology – the fastest way to bet – the Australian owned bookie offers a $300 bonus bet for first-time depositing customers.
