Full Field for BRC Sprint 2012

A full field of 16 horses has been named to contest the Group 3 $1250,000 2012 BRC Sprint (1350m) which will take place as a key support race to the feature Doomben Cup this Saturday.

In-form geldings Tiger Tees and Smokin’ Joey share the top weight of 58kg but both have taken an early blow after drawing barriers 13 and 14 respectively.

Trained by Joseph Pride, Tiger Tees has a highly impressive record of seven wins from 10 starts and produced a stunning effort last start to lead from the front and beat Pinwheel by a bob of the head in the Hall Mark Stakes.

Smokin’ Joey is chasing a fourth consecutive victory and is fresh off a dominant performance in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap which he won by 2 ½ lengths ahead of Under The Eiffel.

Peter Snowden-trained colt Free Wheeling has been aided by both weight and barrier and will carry the minimum of 54.5kg when he runs from barrier eight.

Last year’s Champagne Classic winner has been in solid form recently, running fourth in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes before producing an upset four-length win ahead of Pied A Terre in the Hawkesbury Guineas.

Fellow last start winner Celtic Dancer has also drawn well and will come from barrier six with talented up-and-coming jockey Timothy Bell on board.

The Gold Coast-based gelding beat the highly-rated Mid Summer Music in the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast on May 5 and has a reasonable record of six wins from 24 starts.

Leading Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote has two runners in the field with six-year-old Gundy Son and five-year-old Racing Heart who will be running first-up.

Other horses set to line up in the BRC Sprint on Saturday include Norm Hilton-trained Carry Me Bluey and Tony Gollan gelding Listen Son.
