This Saturday the Group 1 racing action in Brisbane continues at Doomben Racecourse with the Doomben Cup 2012 and while markets and media attention have been hogged by Peter Moody’s star import Manighar, Rosehill horseman Tim Martin is happy with how his contender Fibrillation is going.
The four-year-old grey Diatribe mare won her opening two starts in Sydney back in March with victories in the Listed Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Randwick and the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill.
Last seen running less than half a length away second to Skyerush in the Group 2 Emancipation Stake (1600m) on Sydney Cup Day, Fibrillation is one of 17 official entries for this Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 Kirks Doomben Cup (2000m).
Following the Doomben Cup this weekend Martin intends to back Fibrillation up in the $300,000 Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on Stradbroke Handicap Day at Eagle Farm on June 9.
“She’ll go up for the Doomben Cup en route to the Brisbane Cup,” Martin said.
“She has done really well and I’m pleased with her as well.”
It is shaping up as a cracker of a Doomben Cup clash with Australian Cup – Ranvet Stakes – The BMW triple winner Manighar, Auckland Cup winning Kiwi Shez Sinsational fresh off an AD Hollindale Stakes win at the Gold Coast, and Manighar’s Hollindale Stakes second placed stablemate Lights Of Heaven the top three in the futures betting.
The 2012 Doomben Cup final field and barriers are due for release on Tuesday, with our favourite bookie bookmaker.com.au to open their markets on the race soon after.
