Dinkum Diamond Wins The Jansz 2012

Lightly-raced filly Dinkum Diamond has produced an excellent late finish to win the Group 3 $115,000 2012 Jansz (1200m) in the first race at Morphetville today.

Jumping from the outside barrier, jockey Claire Lindop was happy to let the Leon Macdonald-trained horse sit back and let the other horses do the work before producing a barnstorming finish to run down Beau Jez and Stella Lante.

Macdonald was relieved the daughter of Keep The Faith was able to get cover and storm home for a win after a tough race when running second in the Dequetteville Stakes last start.

“She didn’t get cover a fortnight ago. She got it today and showed what she can do,” Macdonald said.

“She was on the back of the filly and I suppose that is where she wanted to be. That was the one that was well backed.”

The talented two-year-old was a long way back at the top of the straight and needed every metre to run down Beau Jez who looked to have the race in control along the rail.

Lindop said sitting back at the start was always the plan after the filly got out of the gates too eagerly last start.

“Last time, she began well and raced wider with no cover,” she said.

“Getting to the top of the straight I thought, I’ve left myself with a bit of work here but full credit to Diamond, she’s a lovely little girl.

“I really wanted to wait for the straight for this little filly…I thought I may have left to late but we got there.”

The win takes Dinkum Diamond’s career record to two wins from three career starts and she has now collected over $100,000 in prize money.
