The countdown is on until Black Caviar steals the show at Morphettville again on Saturday in the 2012 The Goodwood, and an appetiser to the Caviar is the day’s opener – the $115,000 Group 3 The Jansz (1200m).
Also registered and known as the National Stakes, the 2012 The Jansz is set to run at 12:30pm (SA time) and the field features nine up-and-coming youngsters.
Current The Jansz odds at bookmaker.com.au are led by Anthony Freedman’s Mornington raider Papillon in barrier seven paying $3.50.
The Rock Of Gibraltar filly debuted on April 18 with a smart win over 1000m at Sandown when carrying 59kg with Vlad Duric aboard.
They race for the first time since on Saturday, Duric staying on, and are sure to love the huge drop back in weight from 59kg to just 54kg for their maiden stakes assignment.
It is a tight market however with a number of live wire chances with only three of their favourite’s rivals paying double figures.
Following Papillon in The Jansz betting markets are the likes of the well-tried Chris Bieg-trained Dashitude ($5) coming off a stakes win in the Dequetteville Stakes at the track, Mark Kavanagh’s promising gelding Beau Jez ($5.50), Dequetteville Stakes third placegetter Stella Lante ($5.50), last start winner on debut Star Of Zena ($7.50) to get the rails run form barrier one, and early market mover Dinkum Diamond ($9) coming off second to Dashitude in the Listed race.
At the tail end of the markets are then the three roughies with King Valentine and Miss De Pature paying $34, and the Chris Hyland-trained She’s A Monet at a quote of $41.
So in such an open market and with so little form for the juvenile’s feature to go on which horses should you back in The Jansz National Stakes 2012?

2012 The Jansz Trifecta Tip
- #3 Dashitude from Papillon and Dinkum Diamond
Local Dash For Cash filly Dashitude has five starts for four wins to her name already here and is out for her third on the trot. Liked her win in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1100m) on April 28, Amy Herrmann stays on and knows how to win on this filly.
How the Melbourne form of Papillon will stack up is the question. They don’t have the experience but they do have the breeding (being out of an Encosta De Lago mare) and look to have the class. That weight drop is also hard to ignore.
Keep The Faith filly Dinkum Diamond did well first-up to run second to Dashitude in the Dequetteville and should improve. They won their debut back in December and although they have the outside gate the speed from Papillon two on their inside could help.
