Hampden Stakes 2012 Odds – Better Than Ready Favourite

Promising Kelly Schweida-trained colt Better Than Ready heads the betting market for Saturday’s Listed 2012 Hampden Stakes (1200m) which will take place on the opening day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at Doomben Racecourse.

Fresh off a sensational debut win at Eagle Farm on April 21, the son of More Than Ready is currently paying $2.80 at bookmaker.com.au to finish at the front of the 12-horse field of two-year-olds.

Before his debut, the talented youngster opened at over $20.00 but by race start was favourite and justified the betting plunge as he finished strongly to win by 1.3 lengths.

Better Than Ready has an excellent chance to build on his debut victory after drawing favourably and will be ridden by Ric McMahon out of barrier four.

Following the favourite in the betting is John O’Shea-trained filly Hoss Amor who is paying $3.70 to score a win in what will be her first race since the Magic Millions in January.

The daughter of General Nediym finished seventh on that day but won her only other start which was a Magic Millions lead up at Wyong.

On the promising filly’s side on Saturday is a nice inside barrier draw and the services of New Zealand jockey James McDonald who has been in sensational form over the past couple of months.

Following the two favourites in the betting are last-start winner Boban ($6.00), Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Choice Bro ($7.00) and Fastnet Rock filly Saturn Rock ($8.00).

Gold Coastbased colt Dansonate provides some value at $21.00 after running third to Sizzling in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic last weekend as does fourth in that race Dansal who is also paying $21.00.

The 2012 Hampden Stakes allows this group of promising two-year-olds a chance to show their wares ahead of the Group 1 juvenile event the TJ Smith which will take place at Eagle Farm on June 9.
