Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The highlight on an eight event Doomben race card this Saturday is of course the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m), and below the team at Races.com.au have the insider 2012 BTC Cup tips and best bets.
Due to jump as Doomben Race 7 at 3:50pm the BTC Cup field is down to 14 after the early scatching of #9 Title.
There could be another casualty yet too with doubts surrounding the fitness of the favourite, Buffering having pulled up sore after a track gallop this morning.
Trainer Rob Heathcote had his vet look over him and now Racing Queensland stewards have ordered one of theirs to have a look in the morning before clearing the Mossman four-year-old to run.
He’s easing but Buffering is still the $2.80 BTC Cup betting favourite at bookmaker.com.au.
His biggest dangers are perceived to be young Sydney filly Sea Siren ($7), the Joe Pride-trained Neeson ($9) and the always honest Group 1 performing mare Beaded ($9.50).
So does the Races.com.au BTC Cup selections and trifecta tip come from these shorties?
Or are we tipping a blowout for the opening Group 1 of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with a longer priced hopeful such as The Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom ($11), Buffering’s set-for-improvement stablemate Woorim ($11) or class mare Varenna Miss ($12) rated special to win?
Doomben Race 7 Betting – 2012 BTC Cup Tips
#12 Varenna Miss ($12)
Fifth first-up in the TJ Smith Stakes last start was a beauty, unlucky not to run top two. She goes up 100m here which had she got last start she could have won. She loved it in Brisbane last year winning the QTC Cup and she gets a barrier with four, Jim Byrne also goes on and he won with her for her Doomben debut last year before the QTC Cup.
#3 Buffering ($2.80)
If they run they are the one to beat even with a minor injury, we don’t think Heathcote is going to risk them so could come out of this field. The barrier? Nash Rawiller is experienced and will get the job done if needed.
#11 Beaded ($9.50)
She can win if she wants to, but does she still have the zest for racing? Her 88% Win & Place percentage is a cracker, if you can ignore the last two runs and look at her stunning winter here 12 months ago then really she’s the one to beat, hasn’t been defeated at Doomben and Snowden is a master.
#2 Scenic Blast ($31)
Was far from disgraced last start behind Buffering, if Buffering comes out they could be a genuine place chance at juicy odds. They run second up here and have an imposing second-up record (8-3-2-0). Their record says the Good ground is best so the firming track at Doomben works in their favour, also get the rails run from barrier one, way over the odds.
#8 Adebisi ($31)
Heathcote was wary of them and that says something. Won at Doomben two back over Spirit Of Boom, were dead last to Buffering last week but that was on Heavy going and they will like the firming track. Brilliant Doomben Record (10-5-0-1) and has three wins form five attempts at the track and distance, most recently over Latin News last December.
