To save our Sydney punters time scrolling over the form guide for this weekend’s black type feature the team at Races.com.au has done the hard work and below we have made our insider Lord Mayor’s Cup 2012 tips and betting selections for Rosehill on Saturday public knowledge.
Due to jump as Rosehill Race 6 at 3:15pm the $100,000 Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) is shaping up as a crack showdown between some horses just reaching their peak and others on the way out after a full season of racing.
Lord Mayor’s Cup odds at bookmaker.com.au have Gai Waterhouse’s 2010 The Metropolitan Handicap winner Herculian Prince, out to break an 18 month losing streak, as the $3.70 favourite.
Early market mover is the Chris Waller-trained Wazn who gets a draw in barrier two and who is now into $4.50 second favouritism to win their second-up assignment for the autumn – winter season.
Following closely on $4.60 are then class mares Skyerush and Carfty Irna at $4.60 a piece who ran first and fifth respectively in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last time out.
So is it one of these top four fancies you should have your money on for the Lord Mayor’s Cup on Saturday?
Or does the Races.com.au crew have a juicier priced hopeful such as the Paul Perry-trained Southern Skye ($16) or even reigning The Metropolitan champ The Verminator ($26) rated special to win?
Rosehill Race 6 Betting – 2012 Lord Mayor’s Cup Tips
#6 Wazn ($4.50)
Loves this track (5-3-1-0) and has two wins over the track and distance, their Rowley Mile fourth was an eye-catcher and over the extra 400m here on the same weight the Australia Day Cup winner is the one to beat for us, also runs well second up (3-1-0-1) so get them before they firm.
#1 Herculian Prince ($3.70)
Didn’t look bad last time out, quite the opposite in fact, when narrowly beaten in the JRA Plate over this distance but they have 59.5kg and barrier 10 to overcome, plus their strike rate is too dismal for us to take them on as the favourite.
#3 Skyerush ($4.60)
Was good in the Emancipation Stakes, should like the extra distance here too having run third in the Matriarch Stakes at Flemington over the 2000m during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, a little too much weight? She goes up 55.5kg to 57kg but still genuine place chance.
#9 Zakynthos Imprintz ($26)
Loved their Warwick Farm win two back as a $41 roughie where they carried 58.5kg form barrier 11 (of 14), okay so it wasn’t the same class but it was still worth noting. They are an improver this season and their second at Kensington over 1800m on Anzac Day says they might be ready for the distance. That is the query though as is their class but on 54kg is worth a sneaky place bet.
