Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Aside from the BTC Cup at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival action also includes the Chairman’s Handicap 2012, the Races.com.au team’s insider tips for which can be found below.
A seemingly below-par field of 13 gallopers has been accepted for this year’s edition of the $115,000 Chairman’s Handicap (2000m), running as Race 5 at 2:30pm, with the only real stand out being recent Auckland Cup third placegetter Six O’Clock News.
The Kiwi visitor is the 58.5kg top weight on Saturday and will be ridden by Nash Rawiller, who was there last start when the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Zabeel seven-year-old finished only one and three quarters off Shez Sinsational in the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie.
They give a lot of weight to their rivals, multiple Group 3 winner Ironstein (57.5kg) the only other Chairman’s hope allocated above the 54kg minimum but the class isn’t really that high in this.
So is the Races.com.au sticking with the favourite, Six O’Clock news topping the Chairman’s Handicap odds at a quote of $4 through bookmaker.com.au?
Or are we tipping an upset Chairman’s Handicap result with another to fancy including in-form Gold Coast galloper Streets Away ($4.20) or the John Thompson-trained Count Encosta ($7) who finally gets up to a suitable distance here?
2012 Chairman’s Handicap Tips
- #10 Streets Away ($4.20)
Was an eye catcher at the Gold Coast last Saturday when third over 2200m, they were also good at Doomben on Heavy going three back. Are a mudlark but have four wins from 12 starts on Good ground too so very versatile. Like doomben (7-2-1-1) and can improve and obviously fit backing up on successive Saturdays.
- #1 Six O’Clock News ($4)
Auckland Cup winner Shez Sinsational has gone on to prove that race’s form with two subsequent wins, just think Six O’Clock News will need more distance and give less weight away to win despite the nice form but is the best Each Way chance for us.
- #5 Count Encosta ($7)
Has Jim Cassidy, the draw (3) and John Thompson is going along nicely, should improve getting up in distance and finish top three or four at worst.
- #3 Shuffle The Cash ($14)
Out of form of late but can bounce back from the Hollindale where the wet track didn’t suit, has experience at the track and distance and a solid 48% W&P percentage, also drop back from 59kg to 54kg which they will enjoy.
- #7 Rundle ($21)
Liked what Rundle was doing during the summer, they haven’t peaked yet this season racing over the shorter distances but on a Dead – Good track on Saturday over 2000m at Doomben where they have a good record (3-1-1-0) really like their price.
