Doomben Cup Betting Update – Manighar Shortens

Early 2012 Doomben Cup favourite Manighar has shortened considerably for the May 19 Group 1 feature following the confirmation both Americain and Rangirangdoo have been spelled until the spring.

Manighar

Manighar is the short-priced favourite to take out the 2012 Doomben Cup

Previously paying $3.00 at bookmaker.com.au, the star French gelding is now an incredibly short $2.20 to take top honours in the $500,000 stayers’ event.

Trained by Peter Moody, the six-year-old is coming off a highly successful autumn campaign that featured a rare Group 1 treble in the Australian Cup, Ranvet Stakes and the BMW as well as a second-place finish to More Joyous in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Following the classy import at the top end of the Doomben Cup betting market are a trio of New Zealand horses, with Lights Of Heaven ($7.00), Shez Sinsational ($7.50) and Western Symbol ($8.00).

Shez Sinsational beat Lights Of Heaven by a head to win the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes on the weekend and looks set for a big Brisbane campaign after showing plenty of promise last year.

The Allan Sharrock-trained mare finished third in the 2011 Queensland Oaks and runner-up in the Queensland Derby in her only two races on Australian soil before last weekend’s Hollindale Stakes.

A winner of nine of 21 starts, the four-year-old has been in sensational form this year, winning her last three starts including the Group 1 Auckland Cup on March 7.

One of the biggest movers since the market opened last week is Mawingo who has lengthened to $11.00 after his third-place effort in the Hollindale Stakes.

The German import opened as second favourite at $5.00 but has now dropped to fifth after failing to justify his favouritism in the Hollindale Stakes.

Further back in the betting are British import Foreteller ($12.00), experienced gelding Ginga Dude (16.00) and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Herculian Prince.
