Black Caviar Nominated for July Cup 2012

Champion mare Black Caviar has been nominated for the 2012 July Cup at Newmarket which could feature as the second race on her overseas campaign, with the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 23 the initial target.

The world’s best sprinter is primed for her final Australian hit-out in the Group 1 2012 Goodwood at Morphetville this weekend before heading overseas to show her talents to the world.

Black Caviar is one inclusion on a 57-horse nominations list for the Group 1 event that also features a number of other Australian horses.

William Reid Stakes winner Foxwedge has been nominated along with six-year-old mare Ortensia who as already experienced overseas success with a Group 1 win in Dubai on March 31.

Other high-profile Australian nominations include three-time Group 1 winning colt Sepoy and fellow Darley-owned youngster Helmet.

If Black Caviar does end up running in the July Cup, one of her main rivals will be Bahrain-based sprinter Krypton Factor who has eight wins from 19 starts and was last seen winning by a dominant 2.5 lengths in the Group 1 Golden Shaeen in Dubai.

The four-year-old gelding has finished unplaced just four times in his career and has won three of his last four starts.

His record is still nothing in comparison to superstar Black Caviar, who will head overseas unbeaten from 21 starts provided she does as expected and wins Saturday’s $500,000 Goodwood.

The Bel Esprit five-year-old is currently $1.04 favourite to add yet another elite level win to her resume which already stands at 10 Group 1 victories.

She had her final hit-out on Tuesday morning and trainer Peter Moody confirmed she is in prime condition looking forward to Saturday and then her overseas trip.

A sell-out crowd of 30,000 people will again flock to Morphetville to see the star sprinter, just two weeks after she sold out the track with her Australasian record-breaking win in the Robert Sangster Stakes.
