SA Fillies Classic 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A sell-out crowd of 30,000 will flock to Morphetville this Saturday to see wonder mare Black Caviar in the Group 1 Goodwood but there is plenty of other quality racing on the eight-event card including the Group 3 2012 SA Fillies Classic (2500m).

Fifteen three-year-old fillies were today named in the final field for the $115,000 event, with New Zealand product Crimson Lady one of the headline acts.

Nominated for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks next month, the Michael Moroney-trained filly has been in good form this year despite a last-start sixth in the Schweppes Oaks.

From five starts this year, Crimson Lady has produced two victories and one placing which came when running third in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes on April 14.

The promising filly will have a new jockey on board this Saturday, with Dwayne Dunn set to ride her from barrier nine.

Mornington-based filly Temper Tantrum has drawn wide in barrier 12 but the Alex Macpherson-trained product is another who is capable of winning despite some recent poor form.

The daughter of Hold That Tiger has been unplaced in her last three starts but prior to that recorded three consecutive victories including the Listed Strutt Stakes.

New Zealand filly Crystalised has drawn nicely in barrier seven but she is another who has to bounce back from a disappointing last start after finishing 15th in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes.

Prior to that the Anthony Freedman-trained horse had signalled plenty of potential, winning once and placing three times from five starts.

Local filly S’Amuse is one of the more experienced runners in the field, having won once and placed six times from 15 career starts.

Her maiden victory came two starts ago at Gawler and prior to that she produced four straight runner-up finishes.

Other horses set to line up in the SA Fillies Classic include Elldami who will run from the inside, Robert Smerdon-trained Red Typhoon and the in-form Bells Of Troy.
