RA Lee Stakes 2012 Field & Barriers Released

The action of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival continues at Morphettville this Saturday with The Goodwood meeting featuring a triple shot of Group racing action including the 2012 RA Lee Stakes.

A final field of 11 middle distance gallopers has been accepted for the $150,000 Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m) this year including three last start winners.

One of the most exciting chances in the race is the Dion Koch-trained Verco Road who will be out for their third win on the trot.

Drawn ideally in barrier four with Jason Holder riding, the rising nine-year-old is enjoying a purple patch of form having won the Listed CS Hayes Stakes (1600m) and the Listed City of Adelaide Handicap (1400m) at their two most recent runs.

The other last start winners in the RA Lee Stakes field are both visiting from Victoria with the Michael Moroney-trained Zabeel stallion Zabisco in gate two with Damien Oliver aboard, and Peter Moody’s So Pristine in gate one with Luke Nolen in the saddle.

Another Zabeel offspring six-year-old mare So Pristine travelled to Adelaide last start where they enjoyed a good win in the Group 2 Queen of the South Stakes (1600m) on April 28.

Nolen meanwhile also has the prized ride of the day aboard the undefeated Black Caviar in the $500,000 Group 1 The Distinctive Homes Goodwood (1200m), her last run down under before heading overseas for the Royal Ascot Carnival in England.

Two horses resume racing in the RA Lee Stakes this year with the now John Sadler-trained Linton (barrier eight) who hasn’t raced since their dead last finish in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington last October, and Tony McEvoy’s French import Saint Desir (barrier 10).

Other notable chances from both locally and interstate then include Group 2 winner Testa My Patience, Sam Kavanagh’s City Of Adelaide Handicap third placegetter Bagman, and seven-year-old Nomanville galloper Big Slick.
