Rob Heathcote’s breakthrough Group 1 champion Woorim has been confirmed as a BTC Cup 2012 acceptor along with their better fancied stablemate Buffering at Doomben this Saturday after impressing their Brisbane premiership winning trainer in a workout on Tuesday morning.
Winner of the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield back in February, Heathcote’s maiden Group 1 success, Show A Heart six-year-old Woorim has failed to impress since.
They have finished dead last in their two most recent runs when eight to Foxwedge in the William Reid and 17th to Metal Bender in the Georg Ryder at Rosehill, but Heathcote saw enough in their Tuesday morning workout to suggest they can bounce back in the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) on Saturday.
“I was very happy with Woorim’s work this morning,” Heathcote said.
“He worked over 1000 metres with Buffering and they both worked strongly.
“You saw what he did in the Oakleigh Plate.
“Running 9.8 seconds for his last furlong to beat a top field of sprinters was extraordinary.
“With Buffering in the race on Saturday and a few others probably wanting to go with him the speed will be on and that will obviously suit Woorim.
“Buffering will be very hard to beat but Woorim will be flying home.”
With last year’s BTC Cup winner Black Caviar in Adelaide shooting for consecutive win No. 21 in the $500,000 Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) and runner-up Hay List out with injury, Mossman gelding Buffering really does look very hard to beat.
Sure to open favourite in the BTC Cup odds once released the flying four-year-old comes off a cruisy seven length romp at Eagle Farm from last Wednesday over the 1200m and doesn’t look like slowing down before Saturday.
Also confirmed for a BTC Cup bid after working well this morning was Peter Snowden’s Doomben 10,000 winning mare Beaded.
A star at last year’s Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with her other top performances being a second to Sincero in the Strabroke Handicap and a second again to Yosei in the Tattersall’s Tiara, Beaded is out to bounce back after a career worst season during the autumn.
