SA Fillies Classic 2012 – Nominations

While all the attention at Morphetville this Saturday will be on wonder mare Black Caviar in the Group 1 Goodwood, there is plenty of other quality racing including the Group 3 2012 SA Fillies Classic (2500m).

Seventeen three-year-old fillies have been nominated for the $115,000 event and one of the headline acts is New Zealand product Crimson Lady.

Fresh off a sixth-place effort in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks, the Michael Moroney-trained filly has two wins from six career starts and ran third in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes on April 14.

Fellow New Zealand filly Crystalised is another of the top nominations but the Anthony Freedman-trained horse will have to bounce back from her recent last-start failure where she finished 15th in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes.

Prior to the Chariman’s Stakes, the daughter of Zabeel had won once from five starts but had placed on another three occasions with a worst effort of fourth.

One of the more experienced horses nominated is Temper Tantrum, who boasts a promising resume of three wins from ten starts.

Trained by Alex Macpherson, the daughter of Hold That Tiger will have to turn around some horrible recent form but began 2012 in impressive fashion with three victories including the Listed Strutt Stakes at Hobart.

Other horses set to run in the 2012 SA Fillies Classic include last-start runner-up Weekend Dazzler, Robert Smerdon-trained Hold That Tiger and Mark Kavanagh’s Alessandra.

It is set to be a huge day at Morphetville this Saturday as superstar Black Caviar chases a 21st consecutive victory ahead of her overseas tilt at the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

A sell-out crowd of approximately 30,000 people are expected to flock to the track who see her take on eight rivals in what is likely to be an 11th Group 1 victory.
