My Ex Mate Heads Port Adelaide Cup 2012 Nominations

In-form gelding My Ex Mate heads a 16-horse nominations list for Saturday’s Listed 2012 Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) which will take place at Morphetville Racecourse.

The Peter Blanch-trained four-year-old has won his last four races which includes an astonishing 10-length win at Broken Hill on March 17.

Also included in nominations is Tony McEvoy-trained gelding Raki who is facing a step up in class in his first Listed level race but has a successful early career resume that stands at four wins from nine starts.

He has been in excellent form of late and from his last three starts has produced two dominant victories and a runner-up effort to quality three-year-old Pelicano.

Another nominated in-form horse is Hurdy Gurdy Man who is fresh off a third-place effort in the Listed Warrnambool Cup last Thursday.

After two failed races at the beginning of his 2012 campaign, the Darren Weir-trained four-year-old has been in stellar form, winning twice and placing on the other four occasions in his six most recent starts.

If experienced six-year-old Rowland is named in the final field for the $100,000 event, it will be the Robbie Laing-trained gelding’s 51st career start.

A son of champion horse Lohnro, Rowland has just four wins from his 50 appearances to date but has placed on 13 occasions including a third in his last start at Morphetville to My Ex Mate.

Victorian trainer Darryl Dodson has two horses nominated including Hamilton Cup winner Finiguerra and Texan Warney who has 10 wins from 44 starts.

The Port Adelaide Cup stands as a key support race at Morphetville this Saturday on a card that features the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap which  will see super mare Black Caviar attempt to score a 21st straight victory.

Betting will open later in the week for all the Morphetville action and the best value odds can be found at
