Eight Rivals for Black Caviar – The Goodwood 2012

Wonder mare Black Caviar will have eight rivals as she attempts to extend her remarkable unbeaten streak to 21 victories in Saturday’s Group 1 2012 Goodwood (1200m) at Adelaide’s Morphetville Racecourse.

Black Caviar is gunning for a 21st consecutive victory on Saturday

Carrying the top weight of 57kg, the world’s best sprinter has drawn barrier eight for what will be her final hit-out before heading overseas for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

The superstar is chasing an astonishing 11th Group 1 victory this Saturday and news of her confirmation as a starter has caused almost all of the remaining tickets to be snapped up this morning, with 30,000 people to flock to the track.

Headlining her group of rivals is Mark Kavanagh-trained We’re Gonna Rock who has been in good form this year despite a last-start sixth-place effort in the DC Mackay Stakes.

Kavanagh has entered the Fastnet Rock gelding along with Catapulted to tackle the almost impossible task due to a lack of options for his pair of sprinters.

“What do you do with those sorts of sprinters?” Kavanagh said.

“There’s not much left for them so they have to go around in a race like that on Saturday.”

We’re Gonna Rock has won twice from three starts this year, including an excellent display in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes on April 14.

He has drawn barrier six while fellow in-form horse Outlandish Lad will come from one barrier outside.

A winner of 10 of 36 starts, the Dennis O’Leary-trained six-year-old won the traditional lead-up event the DC Mackay Stakes last start and has won two other races and place once in four starts since March.

Other horses set to line up in the Goodwood on Saturday DC Mackay Stakes third place-getter Go The Knuckle, Richard Jolly-trained Stirling Grove and five-year-old gelding Streetcar Magic.

Leading trainer Peter Moody has given Black Caviar a final hit-out ahead of Saturday’s Morphetville feature, confirming she is in good condition to continue her record-breaking streak.

A market will be open shortly at bookmaker.com.au and while Black Caviar may be at unbackable odds, there are plenty of other options at the Aussie owned bookie!
