If the wet weather that has affected racing in Queensland recently continues over the next couple of weeks, in-form mare Fibrillation is likely to line up in the Group 1 2012 Doomben Cup (2020m).
The daughther of Diatribe is being targeted for the Brisbane Cup on June 9 but trainer Tim Martin will be keeping a a close watch on the weather before deciding whether to give her an early start.
“She’s a real wet tracker,” Martin said.
“I’m keeping an eye on the weather up there and if it’s wet for the Doomben Cup we’ll go there on the way through.”
Fibrillation has shown she can run in all conditions this year, producing career best form in three starts but has an exceptionally good wet-track record.
That was evident in her first-up victory in the Listed Aspiration Quality at Randwick on a slow (7) track and in two other starts in wet conditions she has recorded one victory as well as a fourth-place effort in the 2011 Australian Oaks.
Apart from the Aspiration Quality victory, the four-year-old recently produced a dominant one-length win int eh Group 3 Epona Stakes before narrowly finishing second in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes.
Heavy rain caused Saturday’s feature meeting at the Gold Coast to be run on a heavy track while the week before a waterlogged Eagle Farm caused the meeting to be in abandoned.
The Brisbane Winter Carnival kicks off this weekend at Doomben with star sprinter Buffering chasing a first ever Group 1 victory in the BTC Cup.
