Sizzling On Track for TJ Smith 2012 After Stunning Win

Kelso Wood-trained colt Sizzling is on track for the Group 1 2012 TJ Smith Plate after cruising to a comfortable victory in the 2012 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast today.

The son of Snitzel was odds-on favourite to win his first start since January and he proved both the bookies and punters correct with a stellar four-and-half-length win.

Now a winner of two from five starts, the talented two-year-old was relaxed out of the gates and was well back from the leaders for a large portion of the race.

As they came to the final bend, leading jockey Chris Munce peeled him round the outside and from that moment on it was all Sizzling.

The Magic Millions fourth place-getter showed remarkable acceleration to gallop away from Kindergarten Stakes winner Dances On Stars and local hope Dansonate.

Trainer Wood said the sluggish start was typical of the horse who he expects to improve as he steps up in distance.

“He’s a very relaxed horse. The 1400 and the mile (1600) are going to really suit him,” Wood said.

Wood confirmed the target for the winter would be the $500,000 TJ Plate (1600m) which will take place as part of Stradbroke Handicap day at Eagle Farm on June 9.

Bought for $260,000 at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the promising colt has almost paid back his price tag having collected nearly $200,000 from just five starts.

It was a quality ride from Munce who has beeon on board Sizzling in all of his starts to date.

The feature races at the Gold Coast are just about to begin so head to to back a winner.

Home of the $300 bonus bet, the Australian owned bookie has sensational value prices on all the nation’s top racing.
