Hollindale Stakes 2012 Taken by Shez Sinsational

Highly promising New Zealand mare Shez Sinsational has beaten fellow Kiwi Lights Of Heaven in a tight photo finish in the 2012 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast today.

In a race that lacked speed in wet conditions, Triple Honour and Shez Sinsational took up the early lead as the rest of the field ran slowly behind the pair.

The order remained almost unchanged until the final straight when Triple Honour dropped off and Lights Of Heaven joined Shez Sinsational for a final dash.

It was the first run on Australian soil this year for the highly-rated four-year-old who has now won her last three starts and has a career record of nine wins from 21 starts.

The win is a promising sign for the Auckland Cup winner ahead of the Brisbane Winter Carnival that will include a tilt at the Doomben Cup.

Trainer Allan Sharrock was full of praise for the mare who has proven to be very versatile, having won at distances ranging from 1200 to 3200 metres.

“She’s a good horse, she’s a very good horse,” Sharrock said.

Sharrock confirmed the Doomben Cup as the winter target and expects her to put forward an even better showing if conditions suit.

“Doomben Cup…I’d love a firm track, I think she’s twice the girl on a firm track.”

Heavily backed favourite Mawingo got too far back early in the race and made a late charge but had to settle with third.
