Warrnambool Cup 2012 Betting – Can’t Split Favourites

There is no splitting the current favourites for today’s 2012 Warrnambool Cup, with Maythehorsebemagic and Mr O’Ceirin both sitting at $4.60 at the top of the betting market.

In what is one of the highest quality Warrnambool Cup fields in recent years, 16 horses will line up to compete over 2350 metres in the Listed $200,000 event.

Zabeel gelding Maythehorsebemagic is coming off a dominant four-length win last start at Caulfield but the New Zealand horse has his work cut out after drawing the outside barrier.

Mr O’Ceirin is also coming off a dominant last-start win and the Ciaron Maher-trained gelding has the advantage of a plum barrier six position as well as experienced jockey Glen Boss on board.

Following the two favourites in the bookmaker.com.au betting market are Hurdy Gurdy Man ($9.00) and Finguerra and Module who both sit at $10.00.

Trained by Darren Weir, Hurdy Gurdy Man is another entrant coming off a last-start win and the four-year-old has been in excellent form recently.

From his last five starts, the Warrnambool based horse has recorded two victories and placed on the other three occasions.

Further back in the betting, value is provided by Lord Reims Stakes winner Enchanting Waters ($13.00) who will appreciate the step up in distance after struggling last start over 1600 metres.

The Michael Sell-trained seven-year-old was particularly impressive when winning the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) by 2.5 lengths and backed up nine days later to produce a respectable fourth in the Adelaide Cup.

Local favourite Hissing Sid returns to the event he won twice in 2009 and 2010 and currently sits at $15.00 in the betting market.

The seven-year-old was disappointing last start when ninth in the Hamilton Cup and faces a tough ask to claim a third Warrnambool Cup title after drawing barrier 17.

Also providing value for the punters is Dance With Her ($26.00) who will appreciate the trip back to regional Victoria after struggling in two hit-outs at Caulfield and Randwick.

Prior to his metropolitan expedition the Al Maher mare was in excellent form, producing back-to-back victories in the Golden Mile at Bendigo and the Pakenham Cup.
