Mawingo Clear Favourite in Hollindale Stakes 2012

German import Mawingo is the early favourite ahead of Saturday’s Group 2 $300,000 2012 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast.

Currently $3.20 at, the Melbourne Cup hopeful impressed in his Australian debut last start when winning by two lengths in the Muscular Dystrophy Australia Plate at Flemington on April 14.

Trained by Anthony Freedman, the four-year-old has drawn the inside barrier for what will serve as a quality hit out ahead of the Brisbane Winter Carnival where has been nominated for the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

Betting is tight behind the race favourite with New Zealand mare Shez Sinsational ($5.00), Peter Moody-trained Lights Of Heaven ($6.50) and British import Foreteller all likely to feature near the front end of the race.

Allan Sharrock-trained Shez Sinsational arrived safely in Queensland earlier this week but the successful four-year-old has a tough ask for her first hit-out on Australian soil after drawing barrier 13.

The Auckland Cup winner comes from one barrier inside Foreteller (14) who is coming off a sixth-place effort in the Doncaster Prelude on April 14.

Michael Moroney-trained Wall Street may not have tasted victory since late 2010 but he is a three-time Group 1 winner and provides value for the punters at $9.00 after drawing a favourable barrier seven position.

The seven-year-old is an up-and-down prospect and is coming off a 18th-place finish in the Doncaster but showed signs he may still have some success left in him when running third in the Blamey Stakes.

Another older horse providing value is seven-year-old Triple Honour who will be ridden by Damian Browne from barrier four.

Paying $10.00, the Robert Heathcote-trained gelding is a former Doncaster winner and is coming off consecutive second-place finishes at Eagle Farm.

Also set to run in the Gold Coast feature event are local gelding Gathering ($21.00), 2011 Doomben Cup winner Scenic Shot ($8.00) and Zabeel gelding Ironstein ($41.00).
