Gerald Ryan’s stakes winning filly Angel Of Mercy has opened top of the markets for her Queensland debut in the 2012 Gold Coast Bracelet on Saturday at the Gold Coast.
The improving daughter of Hussonet scored her second career success at start number eight last Saturday when she beat home Bound To Blush in the Listed HB Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Sydney Cup Day.
An $180,000 purchase from the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sales Angel Of Mercy travels to her state of origin for the first time this weekend for the $125,000 Listed H Harvey Prestige Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
The Gold Coast Bracelet, running as the Gold Coast Race 6 at 2:35pm, will also be her first look at a distance great than 1400m.
The bookies believe she will handle the step up and based on her good win last start have Angel Of Mercy installed as the $3.60 favourite at bookmaker.com.au.
Just three of her rivals are also under $10 in the Gold Coast Bracelet betting markets with:
- #2 Miss Artistic ($4.40) – New Zealand Oaks winner racing in Oz for the first time, has winning form over 2100m and 2400m back home, is a Group 1 champion and looks on track for the QLD Oaks but might not be out to win this one. Save for QLD Oaks / Derby bet.
- #4 Hidden Jewel ($5.50) – Plenty to like about the progression and consistency of Matthew Dunn’s Murwillumbah-based filly including their smart last start win in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm, see the distance for the first time and if they handle that are a genuine each way chance. They get the distance they get a chance.
- #9 Angelus ($6.50) – Seeking back-to-back wins for the Sydney fillies, Peter Snowden’s daughter of Lonhro races second-up after a good third to the unbeaten Landing over 1400m at Warwick Farm early last month, goes well fresh and while this is their first stakes assignment they won over 1990m at Canterbury during the summer. Best place bet.
Other longer-priced fillies that have genuine claims for an upset Gold Coast Bracelet result on Saturday include Queensland Oaks-bound Pretty Pins ($12), the Chris Waller-trained Scorpio Queen ($15) who won by 3.5 lengths over 1800m at Rosehill on Boxing Day, and Todd Austin’s up-and-coming Foreplay filly Playtime ($16).
There are also a number of roughies that could add value to the winning Gold Coat Bracelet trifecta including Tracey Bartley’s Meghalaya ($26) coming off a good third to Morning Captain in a Doomben black type, and Princess Stakes runner-up Rocksan ($21).
