QLD Oaks Hopes Head 2012 Gold Coast Bracelet Field

A field full of Queensland Oaks hopes will begin their Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival campaigns at the Gold Coast this Saturday in the Gold Coast Bracelet 2012.

Hidden Jewel

Hidden Jewel is one of best chances in the 2012 Gold Coast Bracelet this Saturday

Due to jump at 2:35pm as the Gold Coast Race 6 the $125,000 Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) has this year attracted a full field of 14 starters plus five emergency runners.

In the starting 14 there are three last start winners including Shaune Ritchie’s New Zealand Oaks winner Miss Artistic.

Drawn in barrier 11, into eight with emergencies out, the Darci Brahma filly was formerly raced in New Zealand under the name Artistic and is not only well liked for Saturday’s race but for the Queensland Oaks – Queensland Derby double in Brisbane.

The $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) runs at Eagle Farm on June 2 and is the main winter aim for many of the Gold Coast Bracelet field while the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) takes place seven days later and will only feature the very best three-year-old fillies from this lot.

In the latest Queensland Derby odds Miss Artistic occupies the second line of betting at a quote of $6 trailing only Fat Al ($4.40).

Saturday she makes her debut down under after winning her last two back home most recently hanging on in a tight finish to take out the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) on March 17.

The other last start winners are then the Matthew Dunn-trained Hidden Jewel (barrier five) and Gerald Ryan’s Angel Of Mercy (barrier 12).

Murwillumbah-based filly Hidden Jewel comes off a great Eagle Farm win in the Listed Princess Stakes over the mile and looks well positioned to step up to the 1800-metres on Saturday.

Princess Stakes runner-up Rocksan, third placed Tycoon’s Heart and fourth placegetter Playtime are also all set to back up in the Gold Coast Bracelet drawn in barriers 18, 1 and 16 respectively.

Sydney filly Angel Of Mercy meanwhile raced on Sydney Cup Day last Saturday, the daughter of Hussonet taking out the Listed James HB Carr Stakes (1400m).

Other notable hopefuls include the John Thompson-trained Pretty Pins who has winning form in Brisbane up to 2020m and handles the wet very well, Tracey Bartley’s Meghalaya coming off a good third to Morning Captain a Doomben black type from April 14, and the Peter Snowden-trained Lonhro filly Angelus who races in stakes company for the first time.
