Mid Summer Music Draws Wide – 2012 Prime Ministers Cup Field

Talented Peter Moody-trained mare Mid Summer Music has drawn barrier 15 for the Listed 2012 Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast this Saturday.

Easily one of the most credentialed runners in the 16-horse field, the six-year-old has not produced any stand-out victories recently but has often placed behind well-known horses including Black Caviar, Sepoy, Pinker Pinker and Atlantic Jewel.

She will be attemping to build on her last-start second to superstar filly Atlantic Jewel in the Sapphire Stakes and will have Moody’s stable jockey Luke Nolen in the saddle.

Highly-rated Queensland mare Fillydelphia may have finished fourth to fellow starter Metallurgical last start but the Robert Heathcote-trained horse should improve ahead of a big Brisbane Winter Carnival.

The winner of eight of 23 starts will have regular jockey Jim Byrne on board as she looks to begin a campaign that has the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara in June as the target.

She is one of two Heathcote horses in the race with Gundy Son facing a a tough ask after drawing barrier 13.

Local Gold Coast trainer John Thompson also has two runners named in the final field including last-start winner Metallurgical and six-year-old Mr Armstrong.

Mr Armstrong has drawn the outside but Metallurgical is in a good position to back up his Hinkler Quality Handicap win after drawing barrier eight.

More Than Ready gelding Phelan Ready has been allocated the top weight of 59kg and will be ridden by Shane Scriven from barrier 12.

Trained by Jason McLachlan, the former Golden Slipper winner comes intro the race in reasonable form after running fourth in the prestigious Newmarket Handicap.

The Prime Minister’s Cup will jump as the seventh race on the nine-event Gold Coast card this weekend that includes the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes and the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas.
