Chosen Moment Heads 2012 Oaklands Plate Field

The South Australian Derby Day action kicks off at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday with the Oaklands Plate 2012, a field full of promising two-year-olds engaged to face off in the meeting’s opener.

The top-rated hopeful engaged for this year’s $80,000 Listed Adelaide Casino Oaklands Plate (1600m) at 12:00pm (SA time) is the Anthony Freedman-trained Chosen Moment.

Drawn ideally in barrier four with Kerrin McEvoy riding Chosen Moment is one of the best tried in the field with four previous race starts to their name.

The nicely-bred grey Choisir colt has won one of those when first-up at Bendigo back in March.

They stepped up to Group company for the first time last start on April 21 and ran an eye-catching second behind runaway winner Molto Bene in the Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Sires’ Produce Stakes third placegetter Just Forget It is also set to back-up in the Oaklands Plate on Saturday.

The Kane Harris-trained Encosta De Lago colt has drawn one inside of Chosen Moment with barrier three, Rhys McLeod retaining the ride.

Two other horses in the Oaklands Plate field have broken their maiden status with Viking Star from the Caulfield Cup winning stables of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, and the Tony McEvoy-trained local Whitten’s Delight.

In gate five on Saturday with Clare Lindop in the saddle Red Ransom gelding Viking Star has just their second career start after winning on debut at Morphettville Parks over 1000m on April 21.

Barley A Moment gelding Whitten’s Delight also comes off a win the youngster having won over 1100m at the track on April 19.

Rounding out the 2012 Oaklands Plate field are then Gordon Richard’s Sires’ Produce Stakes sixth placed Monica Kate on the rails, the Danny O’Brien-trained Flemington raider Donna Cattiva in gate two for their interstate debut, and Andrew Noblet’s Caulfield visitor Tunisia Traveller coming off a seventh in the Anzac Day Stakes.
