Buffering 2012 Doomben 10,000 Betting Favourite

Talented Queensland sprinter Buffering heads the preliminary betting market ahead of the Group 1 2012 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) which will take place at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse on May 26.

Buffering is favourite to win both the BTC Cup and the Doomben 10,000

The Robert Heathcote-trained four-year-old is currently paying $5.50 (bookmaker.com.au) to win the event in which he had a rare failure when finishing last in 2011.

A son of Mossman, Buffering begins his Brisbane campaign today in the rescheduled Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm and will contest the first of the elite level events in Saturday week’s BTC Cup.

He is joined at the top end of the betting market by John O’Shea-trained three-year-old Sea Siren ($9.00) who has signalled plenty of potential in her young career.

The Fastnet Rock filly has won three of five starts and placed on the other two occasions including last start when runner-up to Streama in the Group 2 Surround Stakes.

Also at the top end of the preliminary betting market are Patrick and Wayne Webster-trained gelding Thankgodyou’rehere ($10.00), talented Mossman gelding Neeson ($11.00) and last year’s winner Beaded ($12.00).

Trained by Peter Snowden, Beaded was one of the stars of the 2011 Brisbane Carnival, winning the Doomben 10,000 and recording consecutive runner-up finishes in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap and the Tattersall’s Tiara.

The Lohnro mare was unable to rediscover that sort of form when running earlier this year, finishing 11th in the Newmarket Handicap and fifth in the William Reid Stakes.

She is joined at $12.00 by a host of horses including Peter Moody-trained Mid Summer Music, highly-rated sprinter Pinwheel and Anthony Freedman-trained Smokin’ Joey.

Tony Gollan’s Group 1 winner Temple Of Boom is at $14.00 while his half brother Spirit Of Boom is a long way back at $41.00.

Other horses to feature in the early Doomben 10,000 betting market include Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim ($14.00), two-time Group 1 winner Albert The Fat ($16.00), regular Group 1 runner Hurtle Myrtle ($16.00), emerging sprinter Tiger Tees ($18.00) and two-time Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha ($26.00).
