Waterhouse Pair Head Rowley Mile 2012 Nominations

Leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse has two of of the top nominations for the Listed $150,000 2012 Rowley Mile which will take place at Hawkesbury this weekend as part of an exciting race card that also includes the Hawkesbury Guineas.

Both Fast Clip and Western Symbol head into the race with form on the board with the latter particularly impressive of late.

The five-year-old gelding has produced three consecutive victories with the most recent coming in the JRA Plate at Randwick on April 21 which took his record to an impressive six wins from 14 starts.

Fast Clip was not given a chance in the prestigious Doncaster Mile but ran gallantly to finish fifth and only 1.3 lengths behind superstar More Joyous after winning the previous week in the Doncaster Prelude.

The four-year-old will have to carry 59kg to win the Rowley Mile, just one kilogram less than British topweight Foreteller.

Trained by Chris Waller, the import won the David Jones Cup last spring but has been less than impressive in his two starts in 2012.

Lohnro mare Raspberries may be coming off an eighth-place finish in the Doncaster Prelude but she has experienced some success this year, winning the PFD Food Services Stakes and finishing third in the Sunline Stakes.

Star Of Octagonal will make his return after last being seen finishing second to Niagara in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes in late March.

From five starts in 2012, the son of Octagonal has recorded one victory but placed on all four other occasions.

The gelding will carry 55kg along with Kevin Moses-trained seven-year-old Mr Unforgettable who will be making a return to Listed level racing for the first time since last June.

Other horses included in Rowley Mile nominations are New Zealand gelding Zara Dancer and Paul Messara-trained Mirrasalo.

Check back on Wednesday for the final field which will be published on Races.com.au as soon as it is released.
