Consistent gelding Star Of Octagonal gets a chance to continue his impressive start to 2012 this Saturday in the 2012 Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury.
Trained by Todd Howlett, the five-year-old has scored one victory but is yet to finish worse than third from five starts this year.
Last seen running second to Niagara in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes, Howlett expects the run of form to continue despite it being more than a month since his last start.
“He is going well and I think he is a horse who goes better a bit fresh,” Howlett said.
“I’ve been really happy with him this campaign. He has done a pretty good job. All of his runs have been good and it is really satisfying seeing him go well.”
Depending on how the Octagonal gelding runs this Saturday will help decide his future schedule which could feature a tilt at the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane.
“All going well we’ll go to Scone and then we might even head up for the Stradbroke with him,” Howlett said.
It will be no easy task for him to return with a victory in Saturday’s $150,000 Listed event with talented Gai Waterhouse pair Western Symbol and Fast Clip included in the 16-horse nominations list as well as British import Foreteller.
Five-year-old gelding Western Symbol is chasing a fourth consecutive victory while Fast Clip finished fifth in the Doncaster Mile after winning the Doncaster Prelude the week before.
The Rowley Mile is one of three feature races on Saturday’s Hawkesbury card that also includes the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas and the Darley Crown.
